I’m not going to lie peeps, it’s chaos at WDS HQ! It’s been my busiest year yet and I’m still beavering away!
First of all, I was invited to apply for Kirsties Homemade Christmas- I didn’t get on but it made me design new Christmas decorations like this retrotastic snowball,
Shall we have a look at what else I’ve been up to this year, I think you will agree my customers have the best ideas!
These hugs and kisses monsters have been one of my faves…
A very special make for a little one heading into surgery this week…
And of course, Christmas isn’t Christmas without a slice of cheese!
And so many more, including a festive sloth..
But perhaps one of the most important things I made was this unicorn …
This unicorn was made with organic and recycled yarns with a recycled plastic bottle stuffing. Plastic eyes were substituted with embroidered eyes and I think you will agree she’s beautiful.
Sustainability is going to be a big push for me this coming year, and I hope that I can offer all of my core designs in a sustainable version by mid 2022.
When I’ve not being crocheting I have been writing a book! This year has brought me some wonderful connections to some talented women I’m going to put their links at the end) – who have taught me you can do anything! So, I wrote a free E book for children called Darcey and the Big Treat!
If you would like a free copy simply click the link and fill in the form
https://claire.simplero.com/ the original and best marketing coach and even though you are too late for the hard copy planner, there is now an awesome digital version! I will earn a commission if you purchase one but to be honest I’ve been recommending Claire for years!
Hello my lovelies! I’m so sorry it’s been so long but in my defence I have been sooooo busy! So busy, that it’s feeling like Santa’s workshop or in our case Darcey’s workshop! And there will be more about that further down 😊
But first let me tell you what I have been up to, I have finally got my festive food and drink decorations range finished! And one of them has become a runaway success, please meet Pete, the pig in a blanket….
We are a partially vegan household and I had to find a meat free version for my range!
I obviously also needed a mince pie, this is Matt….
He’s in his metal tin because he knows you are too busy to make them all the time, and he promises not to tell anyone 😉
Here’s the finished box, which will be in my Etsy shop soon….
I have also been busy with your orders, this order was so pretty to make ….
And now for the super exciting bit! My kit patterns have been out for testing and look ……
These kits will be on sale in my Etsy shop on 1.11.20 and will come with everything you need including a hook, needles, yarn and stuffing. They will be branded Darcey’s Workshop as you guys will be doing the work,
I will let you know when they are in there and will try and get more festive goodies in there too.
Oh my loves how I have neglected you! I have literally been up to my elf ears in orders! I have also been to my first fair in a while….. lets see what happened!
As you can see the set up of my stall was very different to normal, I had read an article in Mollie Makes magazine, it said that your stall should look like your online images- so I made everything pastel and made some box shelves into little shops! the sign in the middle was a cheap purchase from http://www.Next.co.uk and actually changes colour!
It certainly worked! I sold a lot of unicorns…
These two went along with a couple of different colour ones which I failed to keep pictures of!
I did keep a picture of a Mercorn…
who also found their forever home. I also sold some bows and baubles like these ones .
so all in all a huge success!
Of course there were a million orders too!
There has been a couple of these flying out, one in his traditional Christmas PJs and one in some snappy blue ones……
Fa la La llama has been so popular that I am dreaming up a different kind of llama for you to put your Easter chocolates in!
Of course Christmas orders wouldn’t be complete without this guy…..
We have also sold a lot of these sleepy bunnies……
made from special yarn that is anti microbial, so preventing germs being carried to even the smallest of babies.
There were lots od unicorns including a customer request for a Victoria Sponge unicorn with blue hair! I must confess I wasn’t sure but……
She just might be my favourite!
I also made a bunch of videos for my Facebook advent calendar so pop over to @whiledarceysleeps on Facebook to see what I have been up to!
I would also like to thank my personal cheer squad Michelle, Tracy, Ilisa, Victoria and Lucy, you guys have kept me going through a tricky year health wise .
2018 has been my most successful year yet, but I have lots of plans for 2019 that are going to blow your socks off! and I will most certainly be following this advice from GBBO winner Nadiya Hussein
all that remains is to wish you a Happy Christmas and the most amazing 2019!!
Ding dong merrily on high! who’s excited for Christmas? For me it literally is “the most wonderful time of the year”but it is also the most expensive time of the year!
In my family I’m known as a bit of a personal shopper, able to hunt out the best gifts and the unexpected at the drop of the hat, so let’s have a look at a few items that could be on your Christmas lists with a handy splurge/save option according to your available finances!
Perfume features high on a lot of peoples wish lists, the new perfume from Alexander McQueen really is something special……….
With notes of three night flowering blooms; Sambac jasmine, tuberose and ylang ylang, it is exotic and mysterious, and that my darlings is why this bottle will set you back £285! to be fair there are smaller bottles starting at £50.
So how about a save option? I am a super fan of the clever folks at Shay and Blue, this offering hits similar mysterious notes….
Atropa belladonna is inspired by deadly nightshade, with a heart of cassis berries, and notes of narcissus, jasmine and bourbon vanilla, it is a more pocket friendly £30 for 30ml.
How about a glamorous nail polish to see you into New Years Eve? let me present the most glamorous varnish on the market……..
Take a minute to breath in the exquisite design of the shoe designer Christian Louboutin, this is a bottle that deserves a place on your dressing table, but glamour comes with a price tag…£36 to be precise.
I’ll be honest kids, there isn’t a save option for this one,
however if cool polish is what you are looking for, look no further……
Soigne (translates as take care of) polish has up to 85% botanical ingredients, is free from the 5 carcinogens that can be in polish, is not tested on animals and is vegan friendly! hit their sale and you can grab a bottle for £4.80, it normally retails at £11.
While we are on the subject of New Years Eve, it is a great time to try the new trend of flat party shoes. If money is no object there is no better designer that Valentino for this new alternative to heels…
Yum! but at £615 it would give me heart failure to wear them!
Mercifully this is where ASOS rides in with these cuties……
Sorry for the screen shot but at least you have all the info!
Finally, and this might be a niche market, I have an obsession with decorations from bauble makers to the stars Bombki, their macaron set is a dream purchase……..
At £59… to be honest I don’t know if I would risk it, but thats ok because look what Anthropologie have……
These are currently in the sale at £18.20! and I like these a bit more!
Heres your links if you fancy purchasing any of the above or just want to admire from afar!
Well hello there! It has been a busy week here at WDS, and I have noticed that I have been more butterfly brained than normal. However, on this occasion it seems to be working in my favour, you see I have a million things to do and make before my Christmas fair at the end of the month, and if I stick to one project I tend to get a bit bored and start checking Instagram! But my picking up and putting down has kept my interest up and has achieved quite a lot, let’s have a look…..
This crazy pompom wreath just needs some ribbon and it’s all done ……..
This wreath needs a few more embellishments and it will be good to go……….
Some things are completely finished ……
Ive made quite a few of these as they are popular with the younger customer!
I have mocked up one of the Christmas card designs……..
I have also designed my stickers to go on the back of the card, but I’m not going to show you just yet!
So it looks like my lack of concentration may have actually been a bonus!
By the time you read this I will have just one sleep until I fulfill one of the goals from my dream board, can you guess which one?
So, after I quit the kvetching last week, I had a good hard think about what I could do to keep my business going while my arthritis is so bad….Drumroll please…..I’ve opened an Etsy Shop!!!
I will be stocking it as and when I have stuff, in the future that will include art works and cards with print of my art on them. In the mean time I have some pieces that were destined for craft fairs. Here’s a sample….
Ive got some Spring/ Easter things……..
There are some shabby chic hearts ,some Liberty corsage brooches and a tattoo inspired keyring……..
How about these teddies and their bunny friend, fully jointed with glass eyes, they are not intended as toys but make a lovely decor piece for a childs room.
Last but not least, some Christmas items which will obviously be reduced……
Hello my gorgeous people! today I have a tale of woe to tell you that has a hopeful ending! Our story starts this last Christmas with our heroine trying to buy an outfit that she could see in her head… it was a simple black top with a perfect pale pink satin skirt. The skirt had to be full but with no gathers over the hips, and with a nice deep, firm waistband, that would hold you in a tiny bit, also the skirt had to be the most perfect shade of pink…
It wasn’t quite ballet shoe, it was more blue a bit like this……
But not quite
But it was almost exactly this pink….
The beautiful Pink Rain by Illmasqua. it was irrelevant because she couldn’t find a skirt in this colour, and worse still all the satin skirts were reeeaalllyy pleated, not a great idea if you have hips!
So, our heroine decided to take things in her own hands, she drew the outfit…..
And sewed it herself! oh wait a minute, she doesn’t really know how to sew…..but dear reader she is planning to learn, she has a brand new sewing machine (she lost the power cable for a month but hey ho) she has a mum who is PHENOMENAL at sewing and soon she starts sewing class! of course now our heroine is planning a whole range of clothes and Victoria Beckham style success…….but really she would be so happy if she could just have the perfect pink satin skirt.
Hello loves! Hope you had a fab Christmas Day, we did it was just us three but we still made an effort, and sparkled the table……
So today we are off to the family homestead for a pot luck lunch, and have our usual chaotic brand of fun! We will get a bit glammed up, here’s my mani ( ignore the puffy arthritis fingers I’ve just cooked Christmas lunch)….
The colours are Chanel blue satin and Ciate tangled tinsel.
So have a lovely day sweeties and I’ll see you in 2016!!!!
Lets be quite clear from the outset, I flipping love Christmas!!! I also love a Christmas jumper. My darling daughter however has declared the Christmas jumper passé. This left this little beauty homeless …
If I was the same size I would be happy as Larry but alas that is not the case, so who else might this fit, step forward Miss Darcey……
So with a few cuts and a bit of Velcro could we make a dog coat that would at least make it through the big day? Let’s give it a go!
First cut off the sleeves, Darcey is a bit of a Tom boy so I chopped them off quite short…….
I haven’t done any hemming as I only want this to be worn a couple of times, sew a little hem of you want this to last until New Year!
Then cut down the centre………
Its at this this point you need to try it on your dog to see how it fits round the middle, I needed to chop out more on either side so that it fits snugly.
Next, use some iron on Velcro for an easy and stress free fastening….
Position on both sides matching up your fluffy side with your spikes side……..
And there you go…..
Miss Darcey looking suitably festive!
Remember if your dog is very tiny or very large, raid the charity shops for suitable jumpers. If you have a jumper that you like but it is way too big, try washing it at a hotter temperature than stated, this will usually shrink it!
