Oh my loves how I have neglected you! I have literally been up to my elf ears in orders! I have also been to my first fair in a while….. lets see what happened!
As you can see the set up of my stall was very different to normal, I had read an article in Mollie Makes magazine, it said that your stall should look like your online images- so I made everything pastel and made some box shelves into little shops! the sign in the middle was a cheap purchase from http://www.Next.co.uk and actually changes colour!
It certainly worked! I sold a lot of unicorns…
These two went along with a couple of different colour ones which I failed to keep pictures of!
I did keep a picture of a Mercorn…
who also found their forever home. I also sold some bows and baubles like these ones .
so all in all a huge success!
Of course there were a million orders too!
There has been a couple of these flying out, one in his traditional Christmas PJs and one in some snappy blue ones……
Fa la La llama has been so popular that I am dreaming up a different kind of llama for you to put your Easter chocolates in!
Of course Christmas orders wouldn’t be complete without this guy…..
We have also sold a lot of these sleepy bunnies……
made from special yarn that is anti microbial, so preventing germs being carried to even the smallest of babies.
There were lots od unicorns including a customer request for a Victoria Sponge unicorn with blue hair! I must confess I wasn’t sure but……
She just might be my favourite!
I also made a bunch of videos for my Facebook advent calendar so pop over to @whiledarceysleeps on Facebook to see what I have been up to!
I would also like to thank my personal cheer squad Michelle, Tracy, Ilisa, Victoria and Lucy, you guys have kept me going through a tricky year health wise .
2018 has been my most successful year yet, but I have lots of plans for 2019 that are going to blow your socks off! and I will most certainly be following this advice from GBBO winner Nadiya Hussein
all that remains is to wish you a Happy Christmas and the most amazing 2019!!
Good Morning you lovely people! well, two weeks have passed and I have aged a year! and if you are in the mood for more conundrums, my sister and I are born on the same day but are not twins!! the has such a bad sense of direction that she couldn’t even find her own birthday! but seriously she’s the best present I ever had. A couple of days before our birthday I found this rose in my garden which I thought was very appropriate!………
The autumn or fall is making its mark in the woods near WDS HQ…….
And on the theme of change, we have had a makeover! what do you think? im hoping you will like the fact you can find the follow buttons etc a bit easier.
Some new makes have happened, firstly Sakura, the cherry blossom fairy…..
and Rudi the CE tested reindeer, who is safe for children from birth………
Its October! woohoo! its nearly my birthday!! I shall be 54 which actually seems quite old- good job I am still around 8 in my head! I have been super busy since we last spoke, with all of this!
So, lets kick off with our Japanese lesson! We are huge fans of Japanese culture in our house, we love sushi, cherry blossom and hello kitty! its this fascination thats helped me find my style- lets look at the words you will see if you follow me on Instagram!
Amigurumi (編みぐるみ, lit. crocheted or knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word is a portmanteau of the Japanese words ami, meaningcrocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll.
So you can see everything I make is an amigurumi, but theres another two aspects to my designs, first kawaii which means as an adjective….
Kawaii (in the context of Japanese popular culture) cute.
“she paints elephants that are extremely kawaii”
and as a noun, the quality of being cute, or items that are cute.
“even in a cosmopolitan city like Tokyo, kawaii is everywhere”
So cute like these……..
Finally there is the Chibi element, Chibi can be seen as an insult if you say it to a person as it mean short, very little etc. However, in the world of Japanese comics Chibi means drawing a person or animal shorter then normal, with an oversized head and shortened limbs, to appear more child or baby like…..
Roll all three together and you get these….
Cute little critters!!!
Now onto some of the other changes that have happened at WDS towers! First off and in the interests of full disclosure, I am now linked to two affiliate schemes- what does that mean?
Well, if you scroll right to the bottom of your page you will see a link to buy a Mollie Makes subscription and a link to a fantastic paper craft shop called Craft Stash. These links in very different ways will generate income for me if you click and purchase from them.
Now I will NEVER recommend a site that I do not believe in 100%, I have been a subscriber to Mollie Makes since it began and have frequently used their projects on this blog….
Craft Stash is an amazing paper crafting store with everything from card making, dies, stamps, to planners and journalling ( and you all know how much I love a planner). I will post a link to their special offers when I think its something you will love, and here is an offer you will definitely love!
Good morning to you my lovelies! I am so happy that more people seem to be dropping in to my little corner of heaven! Here is whats been happening at WDS HQ this past – Very hot- July ……
Lets just get the weather out of the way first, its been boiling!! I live in lovely, leafy Sussex in the UK, except now it looks more like the Serengeti! this has however been a bumper year for flowers especially roses, heres my fave…..
This is called buff beauty and is very cafe au lait colour in the flesh. Why is there focus in the corner? because that is what I have been, super focused on getting a couple of things done and perfect.
Firstly, CE testing! I have been talking, faffing, talking some more and generally not getting it done until now!
I have spared you the pictures but all these makes are now CE tested….
I have one more to add to what is now my CE tested range and these will be available in a range of colours. I will soon be posting a colour chart here and on my Facebook page so that you can choose your very own combinations 🙂
The second thing is clay charms, there was such a lovely reaction to the charms that went with The Unicorn Bakery makes that I decided to make some more!
Now, full disclosure, I am a rip open the box, throw the instructions away kinda gal! I have never practiced anything in my life! But this took work, sometimes in 34 degree heat! but eventually we moved from the charm on the right to the charm on the left….
Over the next few weeks I shall be doing more practice and some more designs and putting them onto necklaces and keyrings. Hopefully they will be on sale in late August.
This charm went out yesterday on a collectors edition Unicorn cake unicorn…..
I have also been designing for Christmas but to see those designs you have to subscribe to my newsletter! They will be on my Facebook page at the end of august.
Thanks for popping by I shall have lots more to show you next month, in the meantime its kisses from me and kisses from these ….
Hello my little cupcakes! How ya doing? it occurred to me that this is the last post for this year ( I’m a bit slow on the uptake) so lets have a look at what happened…….
It wasn’t a great year health wise! finally, after 12 years I have a correct diagnosis for all my aches and pains, and by the beginning of next year I might have some effective treatment!
It was an AMAZING year for my teeny tiny company and it pretty much is all due to this…..
This unicorn ( a copyright free pattern from the now defunct Craftseller magazine) was ordered a total of 6 times! for me that constituted a viral hit!
I then had a sell out fair……..
Where I sold a bunch of bows and some things I had designed my self. This really gave me the confidence I needed to design for myself….
And this has meant that I have worked very single week since June and will be working up to Christmas Eve! Incredibly I was also asked to Kirstie Allsops Craft fair ( i couldn’t go as I had no stock!).
Whats in store for While Darcey Sleeps in the coming year? Im going to get child safety accreditation for my makes, I’m going to keep designing in the kawaii style (Japanese for cute), I’m going to sell patterns, kits and fabric felt and I’m going to plan to be ready for Kirstie this year!
This blog started in December 2013, a year to the day after my first panic attack, that original blog post had a picture of a bag that had summed up how I felt……
How appropriate that everything unicorn has made me have the most successful year!
The first person to follow my blog was Mrs P and she said “I can’t wait to see where that unicorn flies”, well Mrs P, that unicorn is getting turbo chargers!
Grab on everyone and lets see just how far this unicorn can fly!
Well good morning my little tiddly winks! have you missed me? I’ve missed you but I have been MAHOOSIVELY busy, I’ve been making these……..
Teeny little unicorns with lavender scented hair! and I’ve made one of these of these…..
Only one as it is so tiny! and more than a few of these……
Little baby Dino’s! and many of these…..
These teeny Frappucinos have been unicorn coloured, pumpkin lattes and festive for no apparent reason!
And now I have a herd of these to make!
All of these little things are so important to me, not only because I sold lots (a girl can’t live on unicorn toast alone) but they are all my own patterns.
So, I am relaunching the blog! it will be almost completely focused on craft, and the things I am making but there will be times I need to tell you about a fab new lipstick and times when something has happened that has me completely riled!! and just as soon as I get time to write patterns down there will be free patterns and ones to buy!
I am afraid that headline is only funny if you are a fan of the Spice Girls! So, on a beautifully crisp, cold,December morning we went to the National Portrait Gallery in London, to see the Who Are You exhibition by Grayson Perry.
It was one of those delightfully bonkers days that only seem to happen in big cities.
There were reindeers at the station
There were Santas in a mass cycle maybe for charity or maybe just because they could!
If you are not familiar with Grayson Perry, he is a multi media artist who is also a transvestite. He has an outstanding ability to speak and understand anyone from the Duchess of Cambridge to those struggling with everyday life, maybe because he does not fulfil a “normal” role within our society.
Recently, he made a series for Channel 4 exploring the nature of identity and making art works to reflect each individual’s story.
He explored diverse issues that affect our society, from a white, single mum who converted to Islam to a man suffering from Alzheimer’s who was slowly losing all sense of who he was.
The artworks were stunning, for the two examples I mentioned he made a Hijab ( headscarf) charting the woman’s journey from troubled teen to devout Muslim and a jar covered with pictures of his life and dark areas of dead brain for the Alzheimer’s sufferer.
I bought this bag which represents a small, part of a huge tapestry called Comfort Blanket which defined what it was to be British. I love the way he has made the Queen look like everybodys Nan!
So inevitably this subject makes you think about your own identity, here are a few pictures that define my own identity.
So, who are you? Send me a photo that sums you up!
